Bournemouth would’ve been targeting much more than a 2-2 draw with struggling Sheffield United on Saturday, but after finding themselves 2-0 down with 25 minutes remaining, it ultimately ended up being a point well-earned by Andoni Iraola’s side. Although understandably disappointed not to have claimed maximum returns, none of the teams below Bournemouth in the table won, so no great harm was done as the Cherries look likely to earn survival this Premier League campaign.

It continued a sequence of alternating between defeats and draws in home league fixtures which the Cherries will be keen to snap as they chase a first Premier League win here this calendar year (D2, L2). With their next three home fixtures, starting with this one against Luton Town, against sides also battling relegation, these are precious opportunities to release some of the growing pressure.

Like their hosts, Luton also needed an injury-time equaliser at the weekend, ending a sequence of five straight competitive defeats by drawing 1-1 with Crystal Palace. Manager Rob Edwards spoke afterwards about using that result as a springboard, and they could start that upwards trajectory here as a win would see them move out of the relegation zone by overtaking Nottingham Forest.

Edwards also spoke about the club’s lengthy injury list – including Tom Lockyer, whose collapse in this fixture in December led to its abandonment – causing difficulty for the Hatters, who haven’t won an away league fixture since Boxing Day (D3, L1). Their last six such games all witnessed both teams get on the scoresheet (W1, D3, L2) and their record here doesn’t inspire much confidence either, as they’ve won just one of the last five H2Hs at the Vitality Stadium (D1, L3).

Players to watch: Enes Ünal’s late equaliser for Bournemouth at the weekend – his first goal for the club – was the third of his last four club strikes to arrive in injury time, while Cauley Woodrow’s goal for Luton against Palace was his second in a row during additional time.
